Carson & Kit’s Iconic Calgary Wedding

Weddings

There’s only one word to describe Carson and Kit’s wedding day; iconic. The couple were married at the newly renovated Princeton building in the heart of downtown Calgary at the end of June. The Princeton was developed in 1912 and remains a prominent feature in the city positioned on a prime corner location with no setback. The landmark has impressive red-brown brick with terra cotta design details, arched windows and granite plinth.

The wedding planning team at The Lovebirds Wedding Co transformed the main floor into a modern and unique ceremony space. With a circular centre stage beautifully decorated with florals from The Romantiks allowing for the couple to be completely surrounded by their family and friends. The big windows welcomed in lots of natural light while still maintaining the cozy and intimate vibe the couple had envisioned.

Carson wowed her new husband and attendees with three dress changes (and multiple pairs of shoes) while her bridal party had everyone talking in their bright and bold dresses; each one unique and different. Kit wore a striking green suit that fit the theme and wedding colours perfectly.  Their vows were heartfelt and funny and the officiant kept everyone laughing with his quick wit.

Following the ceremony, the bridal party and guests were then shuttled to the nearby The Pioneer; a multi space event venue located on historic Stephen avenue. The multi-level space features iconic, original, sandstone walls, harkening back to the buildings heritage. The clean lines and modern finishes make this space ideal for any event, but especially weddings. Guests were met with champagne upon entering the street level patio before making their way to a seafood hors d’oeuvre’ station inside the main doors. The couple had arranged for an open bar featuring signature cocktails. There was a Photo Booth for entertainment, The Campbell Band keeping the energy level up and lots of room for mingling.

While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, the LoveBirds was busy flipping the ceremony space at The Princeton into the reception. A mix of rectangle and circle tables beautifully decorated with florals, fruit and stunning glassware greeted guests upon their return from The Princeton. As the guests enjoyed four courses, the couple were toasted by their closest family and friends. The real party started when the reception space was flipped again to make room for a big dance floor. The DJ understood the assignment and the party didn’t stop until the early hours of the morning.

One of the hidden features of The Princeton is a small vault tucked away on the main floor. The building was originally built for the Canadian Bank of Commerce and this vault plays tribute to the buildings history. The LoveBirds team decided to use it as a surprise pop-up candy bar for guests to enjoy alongside the midnight snack of burgers and fries.

The Princeton is still undergoing renovations, but the second and third floor will add another option for those looking to play host. The European-inspired rooftop patio offers stunning views of downtown Calgary, while the second floor features another open space to bring your dream event to life.

Carson and Kit were warm and welcoming and so much fun! Everything from the ceremony space, to the cocktail hour, to the reception was breathtaking. Thank you to the incredible Dani and Jenn from The Love Birds Wedding Co for bringing us in to film this wedding and showcase your amazing work. A special shoutout to the incredible Becky from Rebecca Frank Co who was the lead photographer for the wedding day and such a joy to work alongside. She’s so insanely talented, hilarious, and so creative. We loved spending the day with her and are thrilled we get to do it again soon.
